The United Nations Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC) lists the illegal wildlife trade as one of the “most profitable forms of transnational organized crime”, with an estimated value of $23 billion USD per year (2022). UNODC has also highlighted the social and economic impacts of the illegal wildlife trade, including its links to corruption, money laundering, and other forms of organized crime.
